How do you make your own soup?

I usually start by lightly sauteing garlic, mushrooms and onions and add those to chicken or vegetable broth or stock. Then I put in whatever veggies I have, including small dice broccoli stalks, dried green peas, lentils, white navy beans, seasoning to taste. You can use plain water instead of broth, but the soup won't be as flavorful.
